Festival Artist and Presenter Selection

The organizers of the Connecticut Storytelling Festival are constantly on the lookout for tellers, workshop presenters, and other performers for the Festival. If you are interested in telling at the Festival, have an idea for a workshop, or know of someone who could would make a good addition to the Festival, please let us know!

How Performing Artists are Selected for the Connecticut Storytelling Festival

An Artist Selection Committee, comprised of six or more individuals, selects Festival Artists. Because the Festival organizers strive to bring fresh eyes to the selection process, three committee members, including the Festival Director, serve on a permanent basis, while the other members' terms are rotated. Each committee member reviews the candidates' written proposals, and listens to/views all audio and video materials.

Artists are chosen with the purpose of providing quality performances and workshops while maintaining a balanced program which has appeal to a wide audience. The Committee is dedicated to bringing performers who offer a balance of style, culture, voice, and originality.

With rare exceptions, the Committee does not consider individuals who have performed within the past five years. Neither CSC Board members or members of the Artist Selection Committee are eligible for consideration during their tenure.

The committee welcomes your input regarding performers we may not have heard about and encourages proposals. Proposals may be made at any time; August 1st is the deadline for the following year's Festival.

To make a proposal, download an Artist Proposal Form (you will need the free Adobe Acrobat Reader to view and print the form), fill it out, then mail it to the Connecticut Storytelling Center (the address is on the form) or it can be faxed to the Center at (860) 439-2895.
