The Connecticut Storytelling Center's Storytelling-in-Education program was established in
Connecticut schools in 1988. It utilizes the art of storytelling to empower standards-based learning in all content areas.
Teachers may select one of our comprehensive residency programs that target Connecticut's K-5 curriculum
competencies, or teachers and storytellers can work together to design programs specific for each school's individual needs.

Storytelling is unique among language arts activities because it directly engages all four primary language skills:
listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
It is a powerful and effective tool in efforts to improve comprehension and problem-solving skills, as well as to develop imagination and
self-confidence.
Recent studies show that information is more easily retained when presented in a story. Because of this, storytelling is an effective teaching tool
and strategy within the educator’s arsenal.
Classroom storytelling is a basic oral communication skill well within the grasp of every teacher. The Connecticut Storytelling Center can
demonstrate these skills in your district.
Let your teachers observe how well storytelling can motivate and excite children, creating more incentive for learning.
Watch and listen as professional storytellers model simple techniques for telling folktales and personal stories, historical tales and literary
stories.
Teachers will explore and develop their own styles of telling as their students make progress in comprehension, creativity and analytical skills.
Here is an introduction for you and your teaching staff to a powerful cross-curriculum teaching tool sure to become invaluable in your
classrooms.
Consider our program offerings and choose the ones that most benefit your school community.
Our school programs are designed to enhance literacy efforts for students in preschool through eighth grade.
