Storytelling and the Next Generation
CSC Schools Programs
CSC's Storytelling-in-Education program was established in Connecticut schools in 1988. It utilizes the art of storytelling to empower standards-based learning in all content areas.
Teachers may select one of our two new Stories with Class comprehensive residency programs that target Connecticut's K-5
curriculum competencies, or teachers and storytellers can work together
to design programs specific for each school's individual needs from our Patchwork Quilt Of Tales, which also includes our preschool program, Littlest Listeners.
Stories with Class
Two new residencies created within the framework of curriculum standards to meet the needs of Connecticut's K-5 students and teachers In our newest programs Connecticut Standards are integrated in an interactive residency and performance package to enliven the designated subject area and introduce new modes of learning. In addition to a teachers' workshop and three grade-level assemblies, our experienced storyteachers work for several successive weeks in individual classrooms using stories and follow-up activities geared to the grade-level curriculum.

Start with Stories
Building literacy and specific skills across Connecticut's K-2 curriculum
Our K-2 Literacy Program encourages enjoyment, understanding and love of spoken and written language. It allows students to engage their imaginations as they learn appropriate language skills.

History Live!
A dynamic study of New England's heritage and history for Grades 3-5
Storytellers bring our heritage to life by transporting students to times past through dramatic presentations, using primary and secondary sources as well as folklore.

A Patchwork Quilt Of Tales Programs Tailored For Your School's Needs
Available either singly or in combination
Littlest Listeners is the Connecticut Storytelling Center's program for preschool children ages 3 - 5. The program is designed to develop and support emergent literacy and is based upon the benchmarks for school readiness prepared by the State. Storytimes are led by talented professional storytellers, many of whom are designated Master Teaching Artists by the Connecticut Commission on the Arts.
Play-In-A-Day: A unique opportunity for students to spend a full day creating a play from a story and presenting it at the end of the day.
Other Residency Options:
Teachers and storytellers may collaborate to design a residency comprising several weeks of storyteller visits. These residencies can focus on topics such as Coaching Student Tellers, Stories Spark Writing, and Conflict Resolution. Classroom work, assemblies, and Play-In-A-Day all can be incorporated into a residency program.
